MESITA, Colo. — An all-star cast of San Luis Valley and Colorado State government officials was on hand Thursday for the Grand Opening of Costilla County’s Mesita biodiesel production plant. A crowd of more than 100 people heard project manager Ben Doon say, “This is the only field-to-tank biodiesel production facility in the State.”
The audience was made up mostly of government personnel. Every County commissioner from Alamosa, Conejos, Saguache, and Douglas Counties, along with Hew Hallock, of Governor Ritter’s Office of Energy, Charlotte Bobicki representing Sen. Ken Salazar, and Erin Minks for Rep. John Salazar, was in the audience. State Sen. Gail Schwartz also attended. La Jara Town Manager Bill Yohey and Blanca Town Clerk Jeannie Butler, Mayor Myrll Smith, and Marshall Dan Sanchez were in the audience, with officials from the National Resource Conservation Service, Costilla County veterans’ organizations, Rocky Mountain SER, the Federal Communication Commission, the San Luis Valley Development Resource Group, and the San Luis Economic Development Council.
