Biofuel set to replace diesel as world petroleum supplies dwindle

According to the latest British Petroleum report, world petroleum supplies will be exhausted in the next 40-50 years if we do not discover another source. Moreover, the entire world is faced with global warming, resulting from the overuse of fossil fuel. To minimise pollution and ensure a secure fuel source, many countries are studying the application of biofuel, which is expected to replace petroleum and provide a clean energy source.

Biodiesel, which comes from vegetable oil and animal fat, has met with success in Europe and the United States. Most countries have organisations which monitor the quality and technical make-up of the fuel, such as the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) of the US.
