Brazil Faces Same Challenges with Jatropha as Biodiesel Feedstock

Brazil faces snags similar to other countries when it comes to using jatropha as potential feedstock for biodiesel, according to the Manila Bulletin in Manila, Philippines.

Petrobras spokesman Erico Monte said there are several challenges Brazilian researchers are trying to overcome with jatropha. One is the use of wild seeds generate low productivity plantations because of a lack of certified, genetically-selected seeds.

In addition there are pests and diseases, and the lack of blossoming and fruit maturation uniformity.
