Five months after the Kenya Bio-Diesel Association (KBDA) was formed to lead the search for alternative fuel in the wake of soaring world oil prices, farmers are now casting doubt over the financial viability of the Jatropha plant.
More than 300 small-scale farmers united by UNDP’s Small Grants Programme (SGP) in Kenya’s Coast Province say the new twist in the trial of Jatropha as a biofuel is informed by among others, high seed prices, competitive world market prices and the issue of mono cropping.
