Germany cuts 2009 biodiesel blending target

HAMBURG, Oct 6 (Reuters) - Germany's ruling government coalition said on Monday it had scaled back plans to increase biodiesel blending in fossil diesel in 2009 but would also reduce a scheduled tax rise on the green fuel.

As part of a series of compromise decisions announced on divisive political issues, the conservative/social democratic coalition said oil refineries would have to mix 5.25 percent biodiesel in fossil diesel from January 2009.

Previously a 6.25 percent blend had been planned.
