Let's tell the world: We're tops in alternative energy

With the largest wind farm in Canada, a solar farm that is only months away from construction and a co-generation plant that is nearing completion, Sault Ste. Marie should be dubbed the Alternative Energy Capital of North America, a city councillor is proposing.

Ward 1 Coun. Steve Butland is hoping to convince his colleagues to declare the clean and green designation at its Sept. 8 meeting.

"I've given this a lot of thought and if nothing else, the endorsement would create a lot of talk, good talk, about Sault Ste. Marie," Butland said.

It's not the only green or clean energy projects that can give the Northern Ontario city a good reputation, he said.
