Negros biodiesel plant pushed

MANILA, Philippines - German P. Saraña, Jr., mayor of Bayawan City in Negros Oriental, is pushing for more biodiesel plants, to be supplied by farm cooperatives.

He told reporters during a visit that the city has put up a jatropha processing plant and plantation worth P1.5 million that started to produce jatropha diesel last August.

He said the plant is designed to produce 2,000 liters of biodiesel a day from jatropha. The plant needs P50 million a year for operations.
